POLITICAL BLUNDER
Over the weekend some politicians came by.Tajol Rosli gave this speech which was initially somewhat relevant to us mere students. But one could only suspect that somewhere along the line he'd drop the bombshell -the politic rubbish which he did successfully towards the closure. So buckle up for what I'm about to tell you.
The topic was Pak Lah.If u hadnt already known this, Pak Lah studied in a sekolah pondok in Bukit Chandan, Perak in his early days. Then he went to Uni and studied either Arabic or Islamic studies I'm not sure.He went on becoming a tutor in Arabic and not long after met Endon who's half Japanese. And get this...while they were dating, he took her to a Musabaqah competition and because she can't understand (so cant I), he translated the recitations.Endon actually told Tajol that she chose to marry Pak Lah because he was rather an "alim" young man who could offer her spiritual guidance that wasn't really available in her own family (the marriage surely has helped alright. Just look at her Nona Kebaya book..lol).
He went on how Pak Lah who PAS labelled secular, could speak Arabic but Mahfuz and some other names I couldnt remember who are from the self proclaimed "Ulama" party couldn't.And Pak Lah could lead prayers including Terawikh while his son's capable of being the bilal and he questioned "how many PAS leaders and their sons could do the same?" (yeah, like it's that hard..the Hall kids could do either, easily!)
The thing is "What has mastering Arabic to do with one's level of piety or political ideology?" It's just a language, a medium of instruction. And there I was thinking ... u dont need to be accredited some University special doctorate award (like Tajol was about to be that afternoon) to realise that.Sorry, but that's really bodo aah. Surely it's Bahasa Syurga and every Muslim should learn it at some point in their lives. But take the populace of the Arab nations for example, they aren't entirely Muslims and yg born Muslims pon macam la semua practising kan? And do they know the language? Yes, of course, mother tongue lagi. See, this is the bit about politicians, they always step off on the wrong foot and think "'Wow! Am i not brilliant?!"..hello...I dont mind Politics in fact reading about them is kind of enlightening but this is what i loathe about some politicians...urrrghgh..setakat nak bagi ceramah brainwash kat those poor underprivileged, lacking-in-education org kampong bolehlaa. The other day, Nits's cousin mentioned about how he thot Malaysians are cowards.Sadly, i agree and happen to fall under that category.I wish I had more guts to speak my mind out on such issues. Asyek takot kena blacklist and put my scholarship at risk.
Tok Pa (Mustafa Mohamad) was cool though. He's brilliant and you could see that.He spoke and hardly did he touch on politics, just the economy. Afterall he is the chairman of NEAC and didnt start as a politician but a civil servant. Now that made the difference, he's got a different agenda I suppose. A decent guy he is!
