Classless Society, Raceful Identity

Yesterday's Sun was the best I've come across in years. I guess The Sun is no longer just stagnantly burning, it's spanning - fuelled by infinitesimal increments of honesty and a hint at freedom. Frontpage was one hell of an attention-grabber... FCP...hohoho! But lo and behold! The best yet was the interview with the nude ear-squat footage made popular MP Theresa Something. The latter being what I reckon as a step closer towards media liberty in this country.

At last we bear witness to some journalistic guts in positively center-staging the opposition. Ms MP's points were poignant and it's simply nice to see them out in the open like that. That's the thing about politics in this country. Half of the MPs are so dense but well trained enough to figure out that half the population is as dense or worse, too naive for their benefit. That's why they constantly get away with their idiotic mudslinging propagandas. The other half of the population just couldn't care less about being involved because they think it's all rubbish and time-wasting (they're absolutely right). And then there are people like me who are in the grey zone - don't focus but do do stick their ears out occasionally for the pleasure of attempted intellectualism or to test their limited talent for verbal onslaught.

Politics shouldn't be about who is politicking or whom they are doing it for. Of interest should have been the ‘what’ in the championship and the reason for the fight. And then the populace can decide whether it's worth their support. Why is the subject matter of race taken to such great heights? Why are Malaysians in general so obsessed with race? Islam doesn't teach you that, in fact it prohibits classification by anything other than piety. And it teaches you about living in a community. Never did it tell you to be good to another Arab, Malay or Indian or whatever race you are. It tells you to be good to your neighbours, period. Besides, whether you like it or not, the painful truth is not all Malays are Muslims. In this era, it's a make-belief story, woven by the Malays in denial.

Tell me, if you have a Chinese revert and a Malay apostate, would you still treat the Malay better? We should embrace race as our identity, as our roots but not more than that.

And why are certain quarters always trying to impose some stupid convictions on us and discouraging us from exercising our democratic rights?! In the true spirit of democracy, shouldn’t we be encouraged to participate irrespective of the side of the wing we choose. The idea is to win votes via constructing the credibility of one’s self not bitching about the competitor to destroy him or to threaten to throw those who reproach in jail. It's not what the others have done wrong but what you can do right. It's just too sleazy and contemptuous otherwise. It should be balanced, unbiased and more intellectual than debating to pains about the TV commercial in which the monarch was portrayed choosing rice brands. What complete waste of the rakyat's money!!
